By the end of March 2020 we have broken through the 10,000 pest removed from the three Trapping lines at Delaware Bay under the umbrella of Forest and Bird. Trapping began at Paremata Flats Reserve back in 2007 since then we have expanded the trapping line to include Maori Pa Rd road reserve between Paremata Flats and Uri O Te Wai (Bishops Peninsula) and over Iwi owned Uri O Te Wai.
There is a dedicated band of over 41 Trappers who have conscientiously checked all three lines at a minimum of twice a week along with an independent group of 5 monitors who monthly monitor separate to the trapping rodent numbers on the three lines. Due to lockdown regulations this activity is on hold until the Level 4 restrictions are removed.
The effort of the dedicated trappers when combined with the planting of over 95,000 native trees ensure the project is one of the most successful ecological restorations in the Nelson Tasman region.
