Update –
Site preparation for 2013 planting is now finished, courtesy of the generosity of Nufarm NZ Ltd for donating all herbicide. With the rain we have had we will get underway this weekend with the planting. We have 21750 plants to get in the ground at Paremata, along with 500 at Uri O Te Wai (Bishops Peninsula). Planting will be every Sat/Sun and Wed 8am until 4 pm, sunny or raining. If businesses or any other organisation would like to be involved with the planting as a team building exercise etc and these days don’t suit contact Ian by email to arrange another day.
Over Easter planting will occur every day, on Sat 20th April Nelson City Council will be providing a BBQ, we hope to make this a major planting day, with over 6000 trees to go in the ground.
Tim from Titoki Nursery has the trees ready, all looking extremely healthy. The Council has now fenced two areas within the original grazed area for this year’s planting where the grass has now been sprayed. These areas are marked in red on the photo.
We will start with the Plagianthus divaricatus (coastal ribbon wood), this plant lies within the tidal range and is salt tolerant, so will receive adequate moisture from tidal movement.
